A lot of friendly, talented, and humble colleagues.
As someone who joined Shopify before the pandemic, I have seen the rise and fall of this company. As the business was booming during the pandemic, so were our perks (budget for home office, 4-day work week during summer, etc.) and there was a general good feeling about the company. During that time, we were working a lot, but we also felt valued by the leadership. At this point, I was advertising my company to everyone about what a great workplace it is.
It turns out it's easy to be nice to your employees when the business was booming. As the pandemic was ending, so were the good times. The stock price crashed, and from then on, nothing good ever happened. The leadership was either sucking up to the CEO or leaving the company. A one-man company, by all means. They were erratic with all of their decisions. They were shutting down projects after a few months, starting new ones, and then shutting the new ones and reversing the shutdown of old ones...
When they fired people, they were outright lying to the rest of the company regarding the terms of their layoff. One story to the ones who got laid off, a completely different story to the ones who are left.
If you are a person who can or will be hired by Shopify, my advice to you is that you probably can afford to be in a much better place.

I was given an online personality and aptitude test. Overall, I get a weird vibe from Shopify's culture. Their first 1-on-1 interview was a coding interview. I solved the coding problem and was told I would probably advance to the next round of inte
