Process

There were a total of 5 interviews:

  • 4 phone calls
  • 1 in-person presentation in front of the engineering team

The first three phone calls were positive, and I enjoyed the people I spoke with. The last phone call was negative. The interviewer had forgotten she had already interviewed me and was unprepared for the interview. The phone calls, overall, were very fast-paced, and the interviewers seemed to be in a rush.

The in-person presentation was difficult to schedule. They told me I needed to do it within two weeks, even after I had mentioned that I was currently starting finals week and had a trip planned after finals week. I presented on my finals week and brought samples of my own work to show. All of the engineering team were late to my interview and did not even introduce themselves to me. The engineering team was very condescending.

After my 30-minute presentation, they put me in a room and said the team would come to a decision. Five minutes later, the recruiter told me they would not be moving forward with me. This was particularly frustrating, as I was promised in my scheduling email that I would have 1-on-1s with each member of the engineering team, and I wasn't even given that after I had driven an hour to the site for the interview.

The team was not very understanding of my amateur student project experience and did not seem to understand time, money, and deadline constraints. They had also told me to bring copies of my resume, which, when I offered them to the team, they said they already had in an email.
