Process

I applied online. The process took 1 week.

Interviewed for Starship - Prop Build Engineer. It is 3 rounds of interviews, all of which are technical.

  • 1st "screening" was 10 minutes of explanation about SpaceX and the position, followed by 20 minutes of basic technical questions about beams and stress, with an open ended design problem at the end.
  • Second round was a 30 minute technical interview - more fast paced.
  • Third and final round is an onsite interview at Starbase with a 30 minute tour, 1 hr long presentation (35 min of you presenting, 15 minutes of questions, 10 minute debrief amongst hiring team), then 5 rounds of 30 min 1-1 interviews.

By far the most stressful yet exhilarating interview I've been in. 2 rounds were walks around Starfactory asking MFG questions, while the other 3 rounds were about structures, design, and more theoretical MFG.

Everyone was cool and fun to talk to including the recruiter, but I didn't get a response until 4 weeks later when they said at most a 2 week response - basically got ghosted after on-site.

Questions

Cantilever beam and buckling questions, DFM questions, lots of questions on why certain structures are built the way they are (i.e. why is a soda can designed the way it is)
