Pros: They pay decently, and there are a lot of smart engineers.

Cons: Old news: seniority is based on time there, not skill, and has a clear good-ol-boys-and-girls-club. It's not a good feeling for most new hires because you quickly realize you have to fit into the 'click' to ever make it there. No millennial or younger person will choose Splunk if they are searching for a tool like this, so they are bound to die out. Open-source stacks with Datadog, for example, are eating Splunk's justification of being a closed-garden product and business. Old money (huge banks, VCs, etc.) will never let them start to open-source. They were in the process of changing both their product as well as their form of revenue (cloud instead of local install), and the CTO up and left. This is not a good sign when the CEO is telling everyone this is going to be huge for us, etc. A couple of months after I jumped, I read that the CEO moved on too. This is not a good signal.

Pros: They pay solid, and they have ambitious missions to improve as a company and culture.

Cons: From the outside, they advertise a modern culture. Once in, you see there are a few poor souls trying to make that a reality, but it is still way off. They are doing a cloud migration, but the company culture is still very legacy (tech-wise), and there is a lot of discourse between the various technologies they try to jam into one suite. I'm not sure it will work out well. Their engineering stack/culture needs an overhaul. I would suggest they actually use the capabilities of Gitlab, open source more of their tools, take care of the simple things (packages for apps should not be so hard to find!), and go container/cloud-first internally before you expect customers to.

Pros: Growing Observability business, an opportunity to grow in the networking business.

Cons: Uncertainty with the acquisition. The CEO recently left, as well as the Chief Product Officer, which affects morale and causes constant change of teams. Some products do overlap, and it creates uncertainty with customers who have been told to build Cisco products pre-acquisition and are now asked to buy Splunk products post-acquisition.
