Process

I was excited to be interviewing with Spotify, as it's a great product and has established itself as superior to competitors. The recruiters were very prompt in reaching out soon after I submitted my application online.

I first had a call with the recruiter, who asked about my interests and discussed the position. She then set up a Skype interview with a member of the hiring team. This individual was genuinely interested in my past projects and started by asking for details from my resume. He then asked me a coding question, a fairly simple string reversal, which he then asked me to use for sentence reversing. I cleared that interview.

Next was the onsite interview. There were four rounds, each lasting an hour with only a minute or two of break.

  • The first focused on behavioral questions.
  • The second was on system design.
  • The third was on big data and machine learning (this was a bit of a surprise because the recruiter didn't inform me they were checking my suitability for a data engineer role as well).
  • The fourth was on designing a game and writing code snippets.

After that, I was given a tour of the office and ended my interview on a good note.
