Engineering Interview Experience - New York, New York

Process

Four interviews with senior staff, plus one with HR. The whole process was smooth and professional. Technical questions were very challenging, but were not of the "gotcha" variety. I got the sense throughout that they were interested in evaluating not only skills but "what's it like to work with this person". The office is in a SoHo loft with big windows, and the people are laid back and friendly. A delicious lunch is provided daily, free.

Squarespace Work Experiences

Great culture, pay

Pros: Squarespace has a great culture for creativity and productivity. Amazing peers, supportive PTO that is actually unlimited, competitive 401k and pay, and free healthcare which is super comprehensive. Culture is healthy. Great parental leave. No micromanagement. Not a lot of hierarchy or bureaucracy. A stable business with very responsible staffing throughout the pandemic and in general. I think about my time at Squarespace a lot. I highly recommend being here.

Cons: Not really a con, but if you're not good at self-managing your workload, then this is not the place for you.

Awful Executives

Engineering • Current Employee

Pros: Some good people on the IC level

Cons: Squarespace spends its advertising dollars sponsoring hate speech. It is also probably in violation of federal labor laws.

Cool place to work, but no room to grow.

Quality Control • Former Employee

Pros: Squarespace does care a lot about its employees and you get a lot of cool perks like catered lunch (this does come out of your salary, however), giveaways, cool people, awesome workspace, and more.

Cons: I worked in Cust Ops, where there was essentially zero growth. Do not come into this department thinking you are going to eventually become a team lead, or move to another department. It is not going to happen. I was there for 3+ years and I probably saw less than 10 move to a different role out of hundreds of employees. Additionally, PTO days are not as flexible as you think. MANY Cust Ops employees get a cut off, and it is extremely hard to get the days off you want. I have a feeling the flexible PTO policy is for everyone BUT Cust Ops.
