Very negative interview experience.

Stripe makes a big deal about how their interview process is different, how they test "real world skills" compared to other tech companies. But their interview is just as flawed as LeetCode-style interviews.

The interview consisted of a phone screening, a tech phone interview, and a remote onsite with four technical interviews and one soft-skills interview.

The technical interviewers were mostly disinterested and sat in silence for most of the time. Multiple interviews were set up for failure, with either pre- or post-interview warnings telling me that it's not expected that I actually solve the problems. I understand that they're trying to test my problem-solving approaches, but there are ways to do that without creating a strikingly negative candidate experience.

All of the interviewers who allowed me to ask questions painted a fairly negative picture of Stripe, and interestingly, I didn't talk to a single member of the team that I would be joining.

I ended up completely burned out after three of the interviews and phoned in the last two of the day, just wanting to be done. Maybe that means I'm not "cut out" for Stripe, but if the interview process is indicative of their culture (and reviews point to "yes, it is"), then I can't say I'm sorry about that. There are better companies out there with healthier cultures; go find those and leave Stripe alone. I ended up not getting an offer, but would have declined after such a bad interview experience.
