I interviewed for a SWE role. The recruiter was friendly and professional, but the hiring-manager/technical-leadership conversation left a very different impression. Much of the discussion focused on my background. Before we had explored my experience in depth, the interviewer repeatedly expressed doubts about my fit and suggested assessing whether my background might make sense for other areas instead. It overall came across as rude and a bit weird. While I understand not having the ideal candidate fit is frustrating, the complete lack of just conversational skills and likeability was baffling. One interview doesn't establish the culture of an entire company, but this interaction significantly reduced my interest in joining. I've heard this about them from others, but now I get it.
