Senior Software Engineer Interview Experience - Minneapolis, Minnesota

June 1, 2022
Negative ExperienceNo Offer

Process

  1. Interview with a member walking through resume, technologies used, why Kafka was used for this use case, and how horizontal autoscaling works. Good experience.

  2. Pair Programming: Fixed a buggy program and wrote a test case to detect cycles in a graph. Went well and was collaborative.

  3. Interview with Hiring Manager and another member: Similar to the first interview, walking through the existing product and various technologies used. The interview was scheduled for 45 minutes, but the interviewer asked me to design Uber with only 10 minutes remaining, without a whiteboard or tools. It ended up running 20 minutes overtime.

  4. Interview with 2 team members: One person did not show up. The other interviewer asked system design questions and spent 10 minutes discussing why GitHub forking should be reserved for open-source projects after I mentioned forking as my preference. They asked me to write code for summing numbers in an array with only 5 minutes left, again without HackerRank or any tool. I had to write it in Zoom. This interview ran 15 minutes overtime.

Questions

  1. Overloading vs. overriding.

  2. System design: Uber.

  3. Find the sum of numbers in an array.
