Training and benefits are far better than the competitor's.
Assistant managers (ETL's) are expected to work too many hours. Salary plus hours worked means they earn less than minimum wage.
Please respect the ETLs and genuinely listen to their concerns. They work very hard and are treated like sub-humans.
You are hiring a lot of young people right out of college. These people are too often not prepared to work relentlessly long "retail" hours. They are also dumbfounded at the level of stress that comes from running a big-box store that is all too often understaffed.
The turnover is way too high. Interns find it very difficult to promote because upper management places unnecessarily high standards. They pass up extremely qualified individuals from within while they are very eager to hire horrible candidates from outside (college recruitment).
By the way, you must have a college degree to be considered management material. There is an overwhelming amount of stress on the more experienced staff members who find themselves carrying the weight of peers that are grossly unprepared. The constant turnover at the ETL level doesn't help.
I hope that the district-level leadership will one day listen to people that work so hard to make them look good.
Very brief yet personal. I was asked the same questions as everyone else on the group panel. The questions were geared toward specific leadership skills and how I accomplished each one.
I went through about six different interviews and had to pass all of them before interviewing with the District Team Leader. They are picky; they don't just give the job to anyone. You have to show that you've done your research, really prepared for
My phone screen, which lasted about 15 minutes, had a connection that kept dropping. I was surprised the interviewer didn't suggest rescheduling the interview, as it was very difficult to hear the questions being asked.
