Every floor has gossip and stories. Sometimes, honest and technical people will have a tough life in a few projects because most of the teammates will be in the target for 15+ years. They will be insecure and won't support or adopt new technology. Only the manager can make your life heaven or hell, so most of the TMs will always be busy impressing their managers.
Educate managers to avoid politics and favoritism.
