Cons
  • Extremely complex software, not for the faint of heart.
  • Lack of spaces for developers to brainstorm and peer-code.
  • Not enough fun things to do when taking coding breaks.
  • Lack of whiteboards and whiteboard walls for engineers.
  • High expectations for features, with some feature bloating.
  • Frequent upper management changes.
  • No Wikipedia page for our multi-billion dollar company (seriously?).
  • Video game collection is lacking.
Advice to Management
  • Focus more on your engineers and their concerns with the codebase.
  • Feature bloating contributes to less time to fix legacy code, which turns into major and critical CS tickets in the future.
  • Need to be more laid-back and fun to attract younger, more talented developers, especially if you want them to stay.
