Pros: Great people and exciting projects.

Cons: Long hours, not many perks (no 401k matching, etc.).

Pros: We are all doomed. The day is here where they now have power. In their eyes, they've trained for this, watching episode after episode of Game of Thrones. They are emulating the dark triad of narcissistic personality traits, ready to play it out in the real world at work and become the ultimate alpha. After all, aren't all highly intelligent people arseholes? So, you show up to Tesla and you're not an arsehole. What's next? Tough cookies for you, kiddo. Ready to get provoked and hazed by a long line of emotionally underdeveloped man-children? Ready? So you decide to set a good example anyway, showcasing pragmatism, grit, hard work, and witty intelligence. Nicely done. Now you've disturbed the insecure children who managed to secure a spot in leadership without the skills you possess, and now you are on their radar. No sweat, though. You're a great person, and people will surely figure it out soon, right? Wrong. Using reason to solve problems and support others around you? Whoa, hold up, hotshot. You need to slow down. Outshining your manager is a sure way to hurt someone's feelings. It's best to stay agreeable with the willful ignorance and back those who have the authority, even if that means lobotomizing yourself. I know it sounds strange, but put your integrity aside for a second, take a load off, and sip the Kool-Aid. Setting the bar high for yourself and others? Perfect. You will be punished with a manager who will gaslight you with some BS about why you aren't worthy of basic human respect and growth opportunities. Meanwhile, the mouth-breather in the corner, who has all the time in the world to play politics and create chaos for others, has somehow managed to get promoted twice in one year. Oh yeah, this is real. But you still have hope. This is not the America you know, but you still believe there is right in the world, so you keep going. Then one day, you wake up and just move on.

Cons: For people who are genuinely considering employment with Tesla Fremont, heed the following. This is not a place for professional, mature individuals with high EQ and definitely not suitable for professional women. Read up on Stockholm Syndrome or the 'Stanford Prison Experiment of 1971' if you want to understand the 'why' in how a culture can turn so rotten. However, there is much to be gained if you are willing to compromise a few things and if you are intelligent enough to see through the BS and not play the game. Working at this company is one of the few places today where you can learn just about anything. With the right intentions and grit, you will gain knowledge far beyond what most companies can offer you. Bearing this in mind, you will more than likely come across several individuals in leadership who learned the wrong way. Thanks, Elon. Monkey see, monkey do. Bad behavior is somehow rewarded at this company. The lack of emotional intelligence in leadership breeds abuse of power, gaslighting, bullying, retaliation, and harassment, which is rampant and, from my experience, absolutely intentional. Not everyone in leadership is like this, but you will find more bad than good here. You will find scenario after scenario where young and incompetent leadership have access to highly intelligent and experienced subordinates. This is by design. How do you think Elon was able to rewrite history? People below leadership are the true builders and problem solvers. This company will show you what you are actually made of since integrity and character are not rewarded. I watched several individuals who thought they had integrity use willful ignorance as an 'out' because it was the easy thing to do and, out of paranoia and fear, it was the only thing they thought they could do. Most people find themselves complicit to the silent rules of the road. Best of luck.

Pros: - Free cereal (not generic!), soft serve, soda. - Good benefits, you can pocket quite a bit into an HSA, but no 401k matching, which is disappointing. - Transparency to upper management. You can talk to who you need to (with limits, of course). - Everyone says it is a great resume builder. Who knows if this will hold to be true. - Freedom to learn and implement many different things, even if only slightly related to your job title. - Many, many kind people who are willing to help each other and make the place better for everyone. - Many, many smart engineers.

Cons: - On the flip side, many, many morons/crazy people are ready to jump to conclusions. - Stupid email chains with many people included. - We do things in a scrappy (i.e., crappy) way. - Bullying and harassment, a lot of drama. - Also, people who do not fundamentally understand the process are somehow in charge? - A lot of great data to play with if: 1.) we chose to collect it 2.) had people who understood the fundamentals of statistics (n=5 is an amazing benchmark). - Engineering trials are considered pointless, and equipment is turned over to production before validation. - Preventative maintenance is considered waste, though people will definitely be sure to let you know that we aren't doing it. - Responsibilities between manufacturing and maintenance are highly blended. Be prepared with your wrenches at all times. - Safety is not always the primary concern. Management may permit, partake, or even suggest unsafe procedures. Be ready to stand your ground. - 24/7 on call. It doesn't matter if you worked 20 hours in a day; always be ready for a call at 3 AM. Be prepared for continuous firefighting (erm, I mean thermal event management). - Management overpromises on timelines without consulting engineers. - Everything you do is "high priority." Just ignore that nonsense. No one bothers to check in to see how to help you move along or what is gating your progress. - Divisions of teams between departments, even between employees of the same title. Employee skills are not leveraged, and instead, everyone can learn everything and in turn, become responsible for everything. - No mentorship for new engineers. This could be considered a pro for some, as you will be treated as a full engineer and, as stated above, you have a lot of freedom for self-directed learning. - An office space perpetually being constructed (do you like breathing weld dust?). - Strange hiring practices. - Unbelievable amounts of turnover. - Extremely understaffed with people way above always looking to chop more. - Because they are so understaffed, once you learn about a piece of equipment, it is now under your ownership. The previous owner will have no stake in the day-to-day operation of the equipment. It's all yours now. - Don't view stocks or the low-value relocation package as perks. Those are just golden handcuffs to keep you here for two years and burn through you.
