This was a very bad experience! After my interview, my opinion about the company – which I had great respect for and knew as an efficient corporation with a startup culture – changed, and my respect was gone.

The interview process was very unorganized, with a very unhelpful and unfriendly (sometimes even impolite) recruiter.

After more than two months of back and forth, I was told that the entire interview process went very well and everyone liked me. I was even informed that the CEO and CTO had signed my offer and that I should expect it any day. (A couple of unplanned phone interviews were added along the way. They occurred after the "final onsite" interview because a manager wanted to speak with me and did not bother to attend any of the onsite interview meetings.)

Afterwards, they conducted the background check (which put me through a lot and is why I am so upset!). In the end, one day I received a call from the recruiter, and he told me, "Sorry, after the recent merger with Solar City, we are obligated to merge the departments and cannot hire you at this point."

Note that the merger was already in progress when I was first contacted by the recruiter, so it was not a surprise. However, they put me through a lot for almost three months, and in the end, there was no further explanation nor respect for my time and effort.
