Pros

Trust from above, rooms to grow, and impactful works both on Earth and on Mars.

Cons

Chaos, all full stack, no one specialized or professional in any software fields, and that makes things very snoopy.

Constantly on call day and night, even if you are not a DevOps engineer, you are hit with calls for issues that you have no ideas or knowledge about whatsoever, which makes you feel stressed, useless, and dumb, also leading to a lack of sleep.

Very short-term visions on software that is important for the business. Usual phases among the team are:

  • I know the issue, but I don’t know how to fix it.
  • Let’s override it for now; we will fix it later (which no one ever will).
Advice to Management

As the business now grows to a point where things are stable, maybe it is time to truly hire some specialized professionals to fix up some core issues that can prevent some major breakdowns before it is too late.

Give some bandwidth to those who know the issues and want to fix them to correct the issues rather than bandaging them now and maybe fixing them later.

Let go those that are less qualified, and identify those that are qualified.

Change the hiring culture.
