Software Engineer Interview Experience - Needham, Massachusetts
Process
Applied through university. Was contacted by a recruiter within a week, asking me about my background and setting up a telephonic interview with one of their engineers.
This was followed by a take-home coding assignment, which was to be handed in within 48 hours.
The next day, they called to set up an on-site interview, which consisted of two technical rounds and lunch with one of their new hires.
I did well in the first technical on-site interview, but the second one kept grilling me until they deemed me not good enough.
Questions
HR screen: Tell me about a project. Why TripAdvisor?
Telephonic: Basic String/Tree/Array related questions.
Take home: Want to see how well you design the solution to a problem.
On-site: Revise your fundamentals. Medium-hard level problems.

A flat organizational structure (although sometimes this means that promotions are less frequent).Cons: It takes a while to adopt new technology. It seems like we were often a couple of steps behind other companies in the industry. The 2020 COVID crisis hit Tripadvisor really hard. I was laid off because of it, and a lot of fringe benefits (like the free lunch) were cut (perhaps only temporarily, though) for the remaining employees. I do not blame Tripadvisor at all for that, and they handled it very well with good severance and outplacement help. However, it is something to keep in mind: as a business, they are very exposed to world events that harm travel.
