Software Engineer Interview Experience - Newton, Massachusetts
Process
I applied for an internship and went through a surprising interview process.
I was first given a phone call, and the recruiter went through my resume with me. We then scheduled a phone interview with a manager.
After a few days, I spoke with the manager, who gave me several problems to solve over the phone. These problems were mostly math and algorithm-related. They were not particularly difficult, but I was not expecting them.
I was then given a programming assignment to complete within 48 hours. Despite my follow-up calls and emails, they have not yet provided feedback on my program.

How can you efficiently tell how many consecutive zeros are in a number without looping through its digits?

Free food/snacks.Cons: Engineer turnover rate is high. Most senior engineers stay, but more SDE-I and SDE-II left during the past two years. We spend too much on recruiting senior people but do not try to solve the high turnover rate. Low salary increase, low RSU, and low bonus this year. If you were doing great, you get a 2% increase. Managers do not have the power to help your compensation if you are not satisfied with it. Higher management levels do not care about your dissatisfaction. Small teams with fewer engineers do not get higher-level management's attention, which means your compensation and opinions are not important to them.
