Process

The process took around 2 months.

I applied on the Trivago careers website for the Software Engineer position in the Leipzig office. Five days later, they sent me a project to develop with a deadline of 7 days.

Two days later, I sent the project to them and waited 1 month for feedback. The recruiter said that the IT team liked the project and scheduled a Skype interview.

There were two parts to this interview:

  • The first was an HR interview.
  • The second was with a Team Lead.

After 1 week, the recruiter scheduled another interview with the Head of the IT Team. Each interview took around 1 hour.

Questions

First interview:

HR part:

  • Behavioral questions
  • What I knew about Trivago
  • My motivations and responsibilities in my current job
  • The recruiter described what it is like to work for Trivago.

Technical part:

  • We discussed my current job and questions about a variety of topics such as design patterns, software testing, how to improve system performance, and databases.
  • The Team Lead also gave me an overview of the projects taking place in Leipzig.

Second interview:

An interview with the IT Head of the office. It was similar to the previous technical part of the first interview, and he also asked some behavioral questions.
