The process is similar to that of "Bay Area-esque" companies. There's no involvement of HR personnel. They asked me to complete a very cool software homework assignment, which took a day or two to complete.
Then, they scheduled a Skype interview. They missed the first call, and I had to email them to inquire about the situation. Apparently, they had a technical problem. Apologies and rescheduling followed.
In the Skype interview, I did some coding and answered technical questions to prove that I had completed the homework. There were questions to understand my philosophy regarding several software concepts/problems. I discussed issues related to development at my current company, and we shared ideas.
I was then called for an on-site interview. There was a meeting with the "Head of Development." This included a brief introduction to the company, ongoing projects, project teams, and potential teams I could join. The entire discussion was non-technical. Questions focused on my previous jobs and tasks, my reasons for leaving my current role, the type of job I was seeking, and my favorite project to date.
I was asked which project team I would prefer to work with. Following that, there was a technical meeting with two interviewers. It was almost a repetition of the first Skype call. They asked me to design software for a theoretical problem, aiming to assess my skills in problem-solving and software design.
I felt they were asking very specific questions, and it seemed one wouldn't be hired unless they were an exact (100%) fit for one of their open project team positions, which was demotivating.
The recruiting team usually answered my emails very quickly, and I received responses regarding next steps or an actual offer within a matter of days after the last interview. If you are fortunate enough to be an exact fit for one of their teams, you are likely to get hired.
What was your favourite software project so far? Why?
How would you design a software system that controls a railway/underground metro system to minimize overall time travellers spend to reach their destinations?
