I saw this opening on LinkedIn and applied online. An Uber recruiter contacted me pretty soon and asked some basic questions. He was nice, but the process was not smooth. Our first call ran into a little problem, and he simply canceled it. We got to speak a few days later after rescheduling.
The conversation with the recruiter was very brief, about 20 minutes, and I was moved to the next stage. The next interviewer was an engineering manager. He also asked only some basic questions and told me the phone screen went well. He gave me a homework assignment and asked me not to spend more than 10 hours to finish.
Boy, the homework was really something "tough"! I mean, you needed to spend a lot of time just to have a framework, not to mention I was asked to code and implement it all. I spent at least 20 hours to finish and document the project. I submitted it via a website without a chance to explain my work to them.
No news for a few weeks, and then I got a nicely worded rejection email.
My past experience has no detailed tech questions.
