I liked my coworkers; the work is interesting.
A coworker who had been harassing me for almost 2 years somehow found out where I lived and relocated, from another state, into my apartment complex. The weeks following were a rollercoaster. I was told by management that HR did not believe they had the legal grounds to fire this employee. I initially believed them, but then eventually sought legal counsel and was told that was far from the truth.
This employee was moved to another department and told to relocate, but his department was still a sister organization that directly interfaces with a product I’d been heavily involved with. He was still in meetings I wanted to be a part of, and he even showed up to team meetings and team bonding experiences after being moved, without any disciplinary action being taken.
I stayed with the company for ~2 months after he initially moved in. It took 6 weeks for him to relocate, and in that time I was expected to keep working or apply for short-term disability. After already being denied a protective order in my county, I knew I didn’t have the mental stamina to seek for help and potentially be rejected again. Plus, I found it quite ridiculous that a company with an unlimited PTO policy couldn’t just give me a little extra time off.
I was having nightmares about him breaking into my apartment regularly, and management knew.
When I finally sent my resignation letter, HR did their best to guilt-trip me about how I should have been happy with them relocating this employee. Then they started changing their story and told me management misunderstood them when they said this employee didn’t have the legal grounds to be fired.
To end this review, I’d also like to point out that I told sooo many people that they should consider the safety of other women at the company. I was told not to worry about it. I’m so glad I left.
I wanted to believe you all had my best interests in mind, but the longer I’m removed from this situation, the more I’m seeing you were just following orders.
My advice to you is to think about how you would have wanted this handled if I were your daughter. I know for a fact it wouldn’t have been like this.
