I spoke with a recruiter and was scheduled to talk to the hiring manager next. I thought the meeting went well; we talked for 1.5 hours, and similar performance has previously led to follow-up meetings or offers at other companies. However, after 2.5 weeks, I received an email stating they would proceed with other candidates.
The hiring manager seemed to prefer candidates with exactly the same game industry background as himself. I've been a Unity developer for many years, but fine. Unity has many engineering roles open that fit my experience, and the email mentioned I was free to apply for other positions.
However, after emailing the recruiter to inquire about other roles, he didn't even bother to reply, treating me as though I was yesterday's garbage. This same recruiter appears to screen all positions in the region, yet he has only been at the company for six months (previously, he held short-term roles elsewhere).
It's disappointing that they place so much trust in someone like that. I am very disappointed with the overall experience.
First-round interview, so more general talk about the role.
