Process

The emphasis was on testing knowledge, with a little about how you would be to work as an afterthought. It took about an hour.

There were two interviewers, with a manager sitting in. The manager described the company and the job. The technical people asked most of the questions.

Maybe I should add that I did the interviewing. I interviewed about 120 people during my time at VZW. The bad news is I offered jobs to about 20.

Questions

You know C? Good. What's the difference between memcpy and strcpy? Very good. That was too easy, don't worry, they get harder. Do you know the difference between memcpy and memmove? If you don't, that's fine.

In C, if you have two variables of the same structure, say "a" and "b," and you want to set the value of b to the value of a (to preserve it when you make changes to a), how would you do it?

You are on Unix and you just downloaded 200 files from another system, and their names are all in upper case. You want them to be lower case, but you don't want to change the contents of the files, just the names. How would you proceed?
