Process

tl;dr: An absolute waste of time, PTO, and effort for a clearly unorganized hiring process where no one spoke to one another.

1st Interview: A phone call with a VISA employee who shared the title I was applying for. It was more of a technical interview than a general call about experience or what I was looking for. It wasn't terribly hard, but I was asked basic coding questions. I was told I was being considered for 3 jobs during this call. I informed them I was qualified for 2 of the 3 and would not like to be considered for the third.

2nd "Interview": A Hackerrank test. The test did not directly pertain to the job I applied to. The title of the test was a dead giveaway that this was not a QA-focused test but more of a Dev-focused test. Anyway, I have dev experience and completed the test, but it would have been difficult without that experience. I have no idea how I did, but I got another interview.

3rd Interview: An onsite interview. This interview consisted of me speaking with 4 different employees over 4 hours. Every single interview here involved whiteboard questions. They all had different roles at Visa and were basically questioning me to see which role I'd fit best in. One of the interviews was for that role I previously stated I did not want nor was qualified for. I bombed that interview terribly because I had never done that work before. The other 3 were alright. There were lots and lots of technical questions with a 5-minute break in between. It wasn't easy, even when I knew the answers to their questions.

Two days later, I received an email saying, "Congratulations! Your final interview went extremely well, and we want to schedule a call between you and your future manager. Please respond with a time ASAP because we want to get an offer out ASAP!"

I was obviously pretty happy that all my hard work was rewarded. I emailed back giving a time, and I was told this was the time to ask HR-related questions and day-to-day questions.

The manager didn't call me at the scheduled time but called me 2 hours later while I was driving home. The manager told me I was selected for the role I had told them numerous times I did not want nor did I have experience in. I was very confused but said, "Sure, might as well ask my Visa questions." The manager interrupted me and started grilling me with technical questions while I was driving home. I was not expecting that at all. There were numerous whiteboard questions via phone about a subject I don't know. The manager ended the call after 2 questions. I never got to ask my Visa questions.

Seven days later, I received a generic rejection saying I don't have enough experience for the role. "WELL NO DUH." I told that to numerous interviewers, and I said I did not want the job. I emailed the recruiter, and he told me they were only hiring for that role that I said I did not want. I questioned that, asking why I was told there were 2 other roles and why I was interviewed for those. He told me there were no other roles, so I checked Visa's career page and saw those other roles listed there. I emailed him back, and he ghosted me.

I am livid with this interview process. I went from preparing my 2-week notice statement to being rejected for a job I didn't apply to and now ghosted.
