I had applied to VISA through a referral for the post of Senior Software Engineer.

I was called after about 3 weeks and asked to attempt an online test. The first round was a HackerRank test, consisting of 10 multiple-choice questions in Database and Java, 5 coding questions in Java, and one UI question on Angular 2.

Once the test was completed, after a month, I was called to attend face-to-face interview rounds at the VISA Office in Mahadevapura, Bangalore.

There were 3 face-to-face rounds in total.

i. The first face-to-face round was mostly focused on Java, Data Structures, and Algorithms. It lasted about 1 hour. Questions asked included: What is the difference between an abstract class and an interface? What is the difference between ArrayList and LinkedList? Which data structures do we use if we need a key-value pair in sorted order? Write code to determine if a string is a palindrome, ignoring case (upper/lower) and special characters, with an in-place algorithm.

ii. The second round focused on discussions about the projects I had worked on and how I proceeded with them. Questions were also based on behavioral aspects. I felt the interviewer's behavior was quite condescending. a) How do we perform under pressure? Under what conditions would my performance decrease? b) There were also a few coding questions about writing code to generate N Fibonacci numbers. c) Given that the moon becomes full on the 1st day of the month, is new on the 15th, and returns to full on the last day, what is the percentage of the moon visible?

iii. The third round was a discussion about UI and DB concepts. The UI questions focused on Angular concepts like components and AngularJS concepts like the digest cycle and directives. The DB questions were on MongoDB, covering sharding, indexing, taking data backups, and update queries.

I was told I would be called for further telephonic rounds afterward. However, I received an email on the next working day stating they had proceeded with another candidate.

Given the information that a moon becomes a full moon on the 1st day of the month and goes to no moon on the 15th day of the month and back to a full moon on the last day of the month, what is the percentage of the moon visible?

Write code to determine whether a string is a palindrome, ignoring case (upper/lower) and special characters. The algorithm should be in-place.
