Software Engineer (Undergrad) Interview Experience - Singapore, Singapore

January 1, 2016
Neutral ExperienceNo Offer

Process

I applied for the position in November 2015 and received a phone call in late January 2016.

They called me for background screening first (what did I do in my previous job position) and then arranged for a phone interview.

It was a very technically intensive interview; be prepared to answer questions straight away. The interview lasted about 30-40 minutes.

I did not pass the interview, as I failed to answer some questions.

Questions

  1. Tell me about your background, education, and work experience.

  2. Data Structure (Linked List). Given a pointer to the middle node of a singly one-way linked list, describe the steps to delete that middle node. (Example: (1,2,3,4,5,6) to (1,2,4,5,6) with a pointer to node 3).

  3. Use both iteration and a recursive function to sort the above linked list in "reverse order" (i.e., 6,5,4,3,2,1).

  4. There are two database tables: department and student. The department table has department_name and department_id with three records (Computer Science, Electronics, and Robotics). The student table has student_name and department_id with two records (one student in Computer Science and one student in Electronics). Create a SQL statement to display the name of each department and the number of students in that department.
