Software Engineer Interview Experience - United Kingdom

Process

First, I had a telephone interview with someone from the HR department. The interview lasted around 15 minutes and was pretty straightforward, with typical HR-related questions.

Then, a second telephone interview was arranged. This one lasted 30 minutes and consisted mainly of technical questions.

One of the interviewers was a lead software engineer who had a very strong Indian accent. It was a conference call, and the other interviewer (a senior team manager) had to repeat some questions asked by the lead software engineer, as they were sometimes very difficult to understand.

In response to one question, I stated that EJB was part of J2EE, but the interviewer disagreed and questioned my knowledge on the matter without reason. I eventually had to agree, even though I knew he was incorrect. Some of the questions were nonsensical in my humble opinion.

Another important point to mention is the considerable time between each interview or email contact from them – 3-4 weeks! The process is extremely slow, so this is something people should take into account if they are actively looking for a job.
