Pros
  • Friendly colleagues and working environment.
  • Good CEO.
  • Strong emphasis on work-life balance.
  • Friday well-being hours & annual leaves.
  • Good medical and flexi benefits.
  • Visa University is great (paid online courses that employees have free access).
Cons
  • Top-down management. Decisions are taken from the US office, and Singapore just implements them.
  • Below-average compensation compared to the market.
  • Lack of opportunities to grow in one's career.
  • Uninteresting work.
  • Engineering quality is poor.
  • Tech stack is uninteresting.
  • Lack of innovation.
  • Too much bureaucracy.
  • Managers and directors don't have engineering experience but lead engineers.
  • High attrition rate among young engineers.
Advice to Management
  • Please revamp the organization structure. Too many individuals with more than 10 years of service at Visa are occupying senior leadership roles. They lack innovation, creativity, and the drive to move the company forward.
  • Cut down bureaucracy.
  • Encourage real innovation. (There are hackathons, but the winning ideas do not receive funding to move to the next steps. This defies the purpose of hackathons.)
  • Give more power to the technology team to make independent decisions. At the moment, the product team defines the features and functionalities, and the technology team just implements them. This has to change. Real innovation starts from engineers.
