Cons

This review is for the Bengaluru location and for one of the growing product development divisions of Visa, which works on mobile platform development for clients.

  1. If you are an experienced individual with 7-10 years of decent experience, do not join here as a Senior Software Engineer. Promotion to Staff Software Engineer is hard to come by.

  2. There are many reviews on promotions being based on favoritism, and this is true. There is a lot of politics in promoting people. If there are two individuals, one with 6+ years of experience and another with 10+ years of experience, and both contribute to the fullest, management will take every effort to move the other to a different team and promote the favorite one.

  3. Work-life balance is difficult to manage if you have a team full of bachelors and you are in the same role as them. Managers always compare you with these individuals, and the work is also compared.

  4. Managers openly ask you to work on weekends or extend hours.

  5. If you have some family or health issues and need to take long leaves, you are on their list to micromanage. In some instances, the manager was overseeing the technical solutions I was providing.

Advice to Management

Please do not promote individuals who are not worthy enough to Senior Manager roles.

Some are not technically strong and are adamant on what they say. Under them, others should abide by that.
