Pros

Name recognition - Very few people haven't heard of Visa.

Good exposure to high-volume transaction processing.

Benefits - While Visa has slowly been whittling its benefits down, they are still better than 95% of companies out there.

Cons

No promotion opportunities - Visa hires people with a ton of skills and then does nothing to develop them. It is so siloed that most people lose skills rather than gain them. Promotions are generally through cronyism, not talent or ability. Expect that you will never move more than one job level, since all internal moves are lateral.

Lack of leadership - Visa doesn't have leaders; they have salesmen rather than managers (sometimes literally). There are too many who just say yes and then drive their staff to figure it out.

Too many witch hunts - Focus is too often on who did it rather than how to fix the problem. Managers rarely step up and take responsibility for failures of their team.

Advice to Management

Flatten the management hierarchy and get true leaders. Put your money where your mouth is when it comes to career development and actually develop and promote people that are already here.
