Process

I was contacted by HR very quickly after applying for this job online. The process included an HR phone interview, a peer (in the hiring department) phone interview, and an on-site panel interview.

The HR and peer interviews over the phone went well. They seemed like polite and normal personnel.

For the on-site panel, I was supposed to meet three developers and the manager. They changed the date and the people on the list. Anyway, on-site, the names on the interview list changed again. I guess they were busy.

I don't want to sound ridiculous, but this company, at least this specific team, surprised me. I wonder about their idea of diversity. They asked basic questions but tried to trap me, seemingly to show they were smarter than me.

For example, they asked if I cared about the sequence of try, catch, and finally blocks. They presented a scenario where try, finally, and then catch might be used. Well, after the developer explained, they would all function the same and wouldn't cause a compilation error. I started recalling if I had ever tried this before.

What was the point of that? Would it show me as unintelligent if I wasn't sure?

Finally, the manager came in. If the previous developers demonstrated a 'smart' pattern or culture trend within this hiring group, at least they were polite. The manager, however, was very direct and rude. It was horrible.

This department, at least, seemed to lack a certain integrity. I know they didn't like me. They were expecting people from their 'own' world, if you can understand my meaning.

Anyway, don't waste your time there.
