Process

Round 1: Coding written test with 2 out of 5 problems to solve.

Round 2: Discussion on your written test, algorithms and DS questions, and Java questions.

  1. "Where are you from?" I said Karnataka. As I knew he was from North India, we were having tea in the cafeteria after the written test. After knowing where I was from, he never showed interest in my answers.

  2. Merge sort code was clear, but the other problem's code was not clear, so I explained it. I used a whiteboard to answer all his questions.

  3. Explain finding a key in a reversed sorted array. I knew this question but took time to explain it. I gave the complete solution logic.

  4. Explain the Java memory model. I answered.

  5. What are reference types in Java? I said anything other than primitive types in Java are objects, and we can call them references. He then mentioned weak references. I said weak, soft, and strong references. I had forgotten their differences.

  6. He wrote code to know what you understand from it. I realized it was Inversion of Control code. The creation logic is outsourced in DI, and the programmer doesn't create it in code. Why? It helps in unit testing and avoids He said you're missing an important point. I said dependency management. I stated that what he had written was IoC, and DI is different from IoC.

How does concurrent HashMap work? I explained. I did say it is still not safe to use in a multithreaded environment and to use atomic methods like putIfAbsent. Maybe he was not aware of it.

He did not select me for the next round. I could not answer one out of ten questions from him. He showed no interest after knowing where I was from.
