Senior Software Engineer Interview Experience

Process

Hello All,

I was interviewed by Walmart for a Senior Software Engineer role.

The first step was the recruiter screening.

The second round was a two-hour online exam, which included two algorithm questions and other multiple-choice questions.

The third round was a Webex interview, which was entirely technical.

The fourth round was an onsite interview lasting four hours.

I was offered the job as a Senior Software Engineer.

Since I am on an H-1B visa, they initiated my H-1B transfer.

After one month of providing my documents, the H-1B was finally filed, and I was emailed the LCA petition.

When I checked my LCA, it was filed with the wrong job title and duties of "Systems Analyst."

I asked them to correct it, but they disagreed.

I took my lawyer's advice. With current immigration policies, he warned me that it's not right to join with incorrect job duties on your H-1B.

In the meantime, my H-1B transfer, which they had applied for, was also approved.

I had never done anything wrong and was not willing to accept the job with the incorrect application filed.

So, I finally rejected the offer. However, my lawyer advised me that since my H-1B had been transferred and my I-94 was in Walmart's name, I would need to provide my current petition number (Walmart's) for future H-1B extensions or transfers. This would require two recent paystubs, which I wouldn't have.

To fix this, I needed to leave the country and return with my current employer.

I finally did that to resolve the issue.

Throughout this whole process, Walmart was not ready to correct the petition or file any amendment.

I spent a lot of money on a lawyer and leaving the country because of their mistake.

If they had informed me before filing, I would have told them immediately.

They not only wasted my money but also my time spent in interviews and dealing with these problems.

I am sharing this as a heads-up: if you are on an H-1B visa, stay away from Walmart. Walmart's immigration process is the worst I have ever encountered.

Firstly, their immigration services are inaccurate, and I don't support anything done incorrectly.

If they truly wanted a Systems Analyst, they should have advertised that position and hired individuals with Systems Analyst experience.

I don't want to go into excessive detail, but the code for Systems Analyst is 15-1121. They filed my application under SOC code 15-1132, which is for Software Developers, and used the wrong title for a Systems Analyst under that code.

I have checked Walmart's records for H-1B petitions filed this year for "Senior Software Engineer" at my location.

Walmart's immigration team made a mistake and then refused to acknowledge it.

The Walmart immigration team member I spoke with was very rude and unprofessional. They showed no respect and bluntly stated that they would not make corrections and that I could reject the offer if I wished.

They need to understand that this is not how to communicate, and they are not hiring cheap labor for menial tasks.

Warning: All non-immigrant workers should stay away from Walmart and their immigration services. Only join Walmart if you are prepared to risk your visa status.
