Process

I applied for this position via Walmart's job portal. About two weeks later, I received a call from the hiring manager and was informed that a Talent Acquisition team would reach out to schedule interviews.

The TA team scheduled the first phone interview (video call) with a senior team member and the hiring manager. The discussion went well, with most of the technical aspects covered by the senior engineer. I was invited onsite for a second interview.

Walmart team members and the hiring manager, post my interviews with them, decided to have me on their team. This trip was covered by Walmart for all expenses.

Every discussion and interaction with a "Walmart employee" was great until the so-called "Talent Acquisition" team chimed into the process.

This person, who refers to herself as a senior recruiter, happens to be an employee of a firm to which Walmart has outsourced its recruitment process. I was taken aback by the unprofessional approach of dealing with the offer and negotiations from this person. There was never an offer released for me to initiate discussions with; instead, I was told by her (over the phone) about the salary, benefits, etc., and received a text message listing those numbers. There was also a follow-up text message asking if I accepted or denied the offer.

Has anyone come across such an experience in their professional career? This was the last thing I expected from a Fortune 100 listed company. Since when have text messages been used to communicate offers and benefits covered by the company? There was never an official offer released to me, and she changed my application status to "company not interested" within a week.

I urge the Walmart HR team to revisit such cases and have these audited, where the "outsourced vendors" cause a waste of time and resources to both parties involved (Walmart team and the applicant). They also deny an applicant a proper communication channel with the right person at Walmart.
