Cons: Lack of culture. No holiday party at the end of the year. Instead, a holiday lunch was held in one of the conference rooms with food that tasted like Panda Express. Stingy all the time. For example, a baseball game outing was hosted at AT&T Park, which was nice, but no shuttle was arranged. Lack of parking. Only 70% of full-time employees could get parking permits at the Sunnyvale office, and the permits were distributed based on how long you've worked at WalmartLabs. For others, figure it out yourself. New hires, contractors, and people commuting to the San Bruno office are asked to park on the street (very limited space) or in a public parking lot with a 20-minute walking distance. Food is not subsidized. Food in the cafeteria is terrible, edible though. Less holiday compared to other companies. We need to work on Martin Luther King's Day and President's Day while others are on vacation. Let alone Thanksgiving, which did not offer an extra day off. Lack of communication. Many people do not know what they are doing for work. People are not passionate about their work. Policy is not transparent. 200 people (almost 10%) were laid off recently without everyone being told the decision criteria.

Cons: Recruiters think that they are the king of the world. (dhidha is a hint; if you are an employee of Walmart, you would understand whom I am referring.) The worst thing you will experience is that "you will get a bigger surprise on the joining day as they would put you in a different team than the team for which you were hired." If you do a survey on this, why people at Walmart leave in 1-1.5 years, many employees would come up with the above reason. They have degraded their standard of the hiring process. A few years back, they used to hire only from tier-1 colleges; now it has become like anyone with a Java tech stack can be part of Walmart. Okay, it's a good thing that you are giving a good opportunity to everyone. But have some plans for the people whom you hire. Coming to the point which would signify the review title: I was part of a team which had two sets of leaders: IDC & US. My team was an experimental team to experiment with a new model of working. This idea had come from US leaders. IDC leaders were so mean towards this; they were not ready to accept this team's existence. In a nutshell, US leaders were trying so hard to succeed, and IDC leaders were trying so hard to fail this model. Just to disrupt the balance in the team, the IDC leader says these kinds of statements in a team meeting: "We don't have a budget for these many members." To my surprise, when I resigned, the IDC leader said that I took the right decision. Anyway, this team is going to be dissolved. Politics happen almost at all organizations, but here it crossed every limit. In a nutshell, I would say Walmart sucks.
