Software Engineer Interview Experience - New York, New York

Positive ExperienceNo Offer

Process

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 1 week.

I'm rating this interview "positive" because I think it gave me a good sense of what working for the company would be like -- i.e., extremely negative.

The CTO interviewed me. He really drove home that:

  • everyone works 12 hours a day, five days a week
  • there's no formal code review process
  • reverts happen frequently
  • there are no QA engineers and devs are expected to fully QA their code
  • they're interested in "moving fast and breaking stuff," not "engineering excellence."

TBH I'm not sure why they need to work so many hours to build a CRUDdy Rails app version of Etsy for hustle culture self-help schemes, but I guess that's why I'm not a 12 year old founder
