OK-ish company to work for

Software Engineer I • Current Employee

Pros: The engineering work is very good. You get to learn a lot, especially if you are working on a newer product.

Cons: Professional growth is slow, not suited to the younger crowd who want to grow fast. Learn what you can and get out as soon as possible. The stock growth is nonexistent.

not a good place for any kind of career growth

Senior Software Engineer • Former Employee

Sunnyvale, California, United States

Pros: - Not too much of a workload. - Decent perks, especially the food which is very good.

Cons: - Confused management; they have the money and no vision, so they're basically gambling on their half-baked ideas. - Unqualified old engineers designing broken systems, unqualified new college grads implementing those systems, and system engineers sitting there restarting services to make a request hopefully go through!

Service Reliability Engineer • Former Employee

Pros: Yahoo treats regular employees well. They are trying to implement new management techniques like "Tribal Leadership" and "KanBan." The free food is a nice perk, but it really helps the company since there are no nearby restaurants. To a contractor, it felt like regular employees were satisfied overall with their jobs.

Cons: My immediate managers were terrible. Hands-off is okay, but they gave no feedback or misleading information. In retrospect, I felt I was being set up to fail. For contractors, tribal leadership means you get voted off the island before you even have a chance to see where the island is.
