Software Engineer Interview Experience - Sunnyvale, California

Positive ExperienceNo Offer

Process

Applied at a career fair and received a phone interview.

I was asked about basic concepts in Java and databases.

A couple of weeks later, I went for an onsite interview, which consisted of four interviews:

  • The first interviewer asked about finding duplicates in an array and the boundary conditions for my proposed solution.
  • The second interviewer inquired about my projects and then presented a circular queue problem, focusing on detecting full and empty conditions.
  • The third interviewer posed a problem about creating a specific amount X using the least number of coins in a given currency.
  • The fourth interviewer asked for an implementation of the 8 Queens problem and then to design a game of chess.

I believe I did not perform well in the fourth interview and consequently could not convert the call.

Questions

Implement the 8 Queens problem.

Design a game, i.e., at least an object-oriented design for the game.
