Pros: Established company, clear processes, good facilities (gym, subsidized cafeteria, etc.), benefits, and perks. There are lots of learning opportunities, with tons of classes you can join. They also sponsor volunteer days and continuing education.

Cons: Back when I worked there (2006-2010), there were too many levels of management, and initiative was often stifled. I was told, "Don't write any code, use off-the-shelf software." Well, off-the-shelf software didn't meet our needs. I ended up wasting months evaluating various solutions, then we still had to develop our own.

Pros: - Work-life balance, flex time, WFH. If it weren't for the great work-life balance, I would've left a long time ago! - Good compensation. Not as competitive as "top" tech firms, but still above average and much more stable than startups. Not a bad place to stay for a year or two. - Catered breakfast & lunch

Cons: - Few opportunities for career advancement, which is getting worse because of uncertain business prospects. - Very hierarchical and territorial. - The vast majority of employees seem to be "resting and vesting". It's fascinating how much time is spent doing nothing (or net nothing, because we waste a year building something to only find out users hate it). - They are cost cutting. I don't know if the pros I listed above apply to new hires.

Pros: It's hard to forget about all the free food that was floating around Yahoo! As an intern, I had my breakfast and lunch at the company for free and would occasionally stay late enough to have dinner there too (though the dinner was pretty limited compared to the other meals). I also got a free card to use with the buses and trains around the Bay Area, which was very helpful. Yahoo! also has a lot of wonderful self-growth classes that you can take, ranging from intro-level mobile development courses to more advanced topics.

Cons: There were way too many meetings when I was there. At one meeting, I (wrongly) just started using my computer. I was most convinced that I could never survive in a corporation with so many meetings. As an intern, I was also not given very challenging problems. This was a huge disappointment for me.
