Pros

Exceptional engineering talent: I worked with some of the brightest and most professional people I have ever met.

Great educational and advancement opportunities for new grads (Engineering Associates Program, Design Associates Program, etc).

EXCELLENT benefits, which is to say, very competitive benefits in Silicon Valley (free meals, gym, on-site health and wellness center, great insurance, 401k matching, etc).

Generous PTO policy:

  • 15 -> 20 PTO days after 3 years
  • 6 floating holidays (you get them immediately at the beginning of the year, no slow accrual)
  • Unlimited sick days
Cons
  • Retention: The company struggles with retaining this aforementioned talent.
  • Since the Verizon acquisition, corporate leadership feels fairly distant and is mostly interested in the sales side of the company.
  • Varying levels of quality and leadership exist across different divisions of the company.
Advice to Management

Pick a few areas where the company either has traction or is actually dominant, even if they aren't huge money makers (e.g., Fantasy Sports), and invest heavily in them. Continue to prune efforts that just aren't working.

Also, instill a culture of transparency, where employees are not afraid to report mistakes (particularly security-related ones).
