Process

I was contacted by Yelp in December. I had a phone screening that lasted only about ten minutes. It included 1-2 behavioral questions, then about 10-15 rapid-fire basic technical questions.

Some questions asked in the phone screening: Behavioral:

  • Why Yelp? (obvious one) Technical:
  • What does SSL stand for and explain what it does.
  • Maximum value of an unsigned integer.
  • Number of bits in an octal.
  • How to retrieve a row from a table in SQL. etc.

After this round, I was sent to a 45-minute interview over Skype a week later. Again, there were a few behavioral questions, followed by one coding question at the end. I was feeling sick that day and got caught off guard by the coding question, but it's totally doable.

Questions

Coding question from Round 2:

Given a large log file, return or print the ten most visited URLs.
