Senior Front End Developer Interview Experience

Process

A recruiter contacted me by phone and scheduled me for a HackerRank assessment with an interviewer. The response was quick enough. I then proceeded to the virtual onsite interviews. I completed three HackerRank assessments and one system design interview.

The first round felt odd, as I was asked to code in React even after stating I had no experience with it. The first interviewer wanted me to build a React component in 15-20 minutes, which seemed impossible.

In the second round, another HackerRank assessment was given. The interviewer did not seem prepared and did not fully understand the question she was asking. She asked me to complete it in both React and JavaScript. When I asked if I could use hash maps, she insisted I not use them, but I was able to solve the problem without them.

The third round was with a Development Manager who seemed approachable. He asked a medium-to-hard algorithm question, which I solved, and he appeared satisfied with my answer.

The fourth round was with the Hiring Manager, who asked me to design a Zillow app.

Overall, I was disappointed with the interview process and the interviewers. The recruiter's turnaround time was one day, but it is your responsibility to follow up and inquire about the status to be informed that you were not selected.

I would give a rating of negative ten if such a system existed. Every interviewer seemed friendly and smooth only in conversation; none were helpful. The funniest part is that, apart from the Hiring Manager, not a single interviewer was from the same team.
