The interview process involved an HR phone call, then a project discussion, followed by a tech phone call, and finally an onsite interview.
Zillow is quite unconventional. They were incredibly cheap throughout the entire interview process. I am from a different city, and I expected the company to pay for my flights, hotel, and one day's meals, as companies normally do.
They didn't even offer to book a flight or hotel for me. They didn't inquire if I needed anything for my travel, despite knowing I was from out of town.
Instead, they tried to leverage the fact that I was interviewing with other companies to avoid booking my travel. If I hadn't firmly asked and confirmed that I needed a hotel, I would have had to pay for it myself.
Furthermore, they refused to reimburse my taxi fare from the airport to their company. This is baffling.
I don't know of any other companies that treat their candidates this way; only Zillow.
I suggest they change their name to TheLow!!
