Software Development Engineer Interview Experience - Seattle, Washington
Process
Applied online and received a HackerRank challenge in 2 days. The recruiter then contacted me 5 days after completing the challenge for a phone interview. The person on the other end of the line was really nice. Five days after the call, I received the opportunity for an onsite interview in Seattle. Zillow provided for all travel accommodations, including a nice stay at a top-notch hotel, which was within walking distance to the HQ.
On the day of the interview, the first interviewer was extremely excited and ready to go! After three rounds of 45-minute interviews, I was greeted by another friendly recruiter who went over the next steps in detail.
Six days after the onsite interview, I got a call from the friendly recruiter notifying me of the happy results. The recruiter followed up on questions immediately and was super helpful!
Zillow provides a great compensation package for Software Development interns, including the option to join either of the 28 teams they have, more than enough pay ($42/hour), and free housing located right in front of the office.
I would have interned with Zillow this summer; however, I decided to go for a more East Coast experience, as I have been on the West Coast for way too long.
I will definitely come back to apply for a full-time position!

Most of the employees are friendly, and it is a genuinely fun place to work.Cons: New managers are not given any sort of training, and can be very ineffective and "sell out" under pressure instead of trying to act in favor of their own employees. Also, requirements for advancement are ambiguously worded, which senior management leverages to avoid giving deserved compensation and recognition. Only the people in high-profile positions will be recognized for their accomplishments. Program Management is totally unstructured, and requirements are often very poorly defined.
