Referred by a recruiter, I was given what seem like standard questions based on other posts. The turnaround for a final decision was very long.
I spent about 3-4 hours coding, documenting, and testing the problems. I received a solid rejection with no explanation other than my code wasn't good enough. Let's set things straight: I have 10+ years of experience, and my code was well-documented with full JavaDoc comments. I included accompanying unit tests to verify functionality and even implemented the trinary tree problem using generics. The only thing that could have possibly been done better was making the tree auto-balancing, but given that most at-home coding challenges are 30-60 minutes, I felt I had already expended enough effort.
Whoever is reviewing these coding solutions has an unusually unrealistic bar.
