Software Development Engineer Interview Experience - Seattle, Washington
Process
The interview consists of three parts: two phone screens and one on-site.
For the two phone screens, they are purely technical. You were tested with one algorithm question in 45 minutes. The algorithm questions are about arrays, so please review arrays.
Then, HR invited me to do the on-site interview. For the on-site interviews, there are 5 rounds.
3 rounds are purely technical. You are tested with algorithm questions, especially in terms of dynamic programming. Please prepare for that. There is even one brain teaser problem about merge sort. Since I signed an NDA, I will not disclose it, but the question is very interesting.
2 rounds are about behaviors. Please prepare for questions about what you did at your previous employer, why Zillow, your future career plans, and so on.
All in all, all the questions are pretty manageable. Actually, Zillow finds culture fit more than skills. Please be prepared in terms of Zillow's product and Zillow's future.

Always thinking big and moving fast to achieve those goals. It is hard to see from the outside, but that is the reason Zillow dominates the markets and competition keeps playing catch-up. Pretty much still a bottom-up approach, with small teams driving awesome products. There is a level of autonomy given to engineers. Work-life balance is great. I really like how we do all release activities during the daytime with almost no downtime to the live site. We have a really efficient operations team that makes this happen (they can be a little stubborn at times, but they need to keep Zillow running -- understandable). That means no on-call for developers.Cons: Mostly due to the flat organizational structure, it's hard to see clear career progression.
