Engineering Manager, Tax Platform

Airbnb, founded in 2007, has grown from hosting three guests in San Francisco to facilitating over 1 billion guest arrivals globally. The Tax Engineering division at Airbnb tackles complex global challenges in tax quoting, invoicing, and collection. As the Engineering Manager for the Invoice Platform team, you'll lead a crucial system responsible for tax invoice generation and recording across Airbnb's worldwide operations.

The role demands a strategic leader who can balance technical excellence with team development. You'll work closely with Staff and Senior Staff engineers, managing architecture decisions while mentoring team members to reach their full potential. The position requires collaboration across multiple time zones, working with teams in both India and the US.

Your responsibilities span from technical leadership to people management, including creating plans for addressing technical debt, setting team strategy, and ensuring effective sprint planning. You'll work closely with various engineering teams like Payments and Pricing, while also partnering with Tax Operations, Data Engineering, and Product teams.

The ideal candidate brings 9+ years of software development experience, including 3+ years in engineering management. You should excel at managing distributed teams, handling complex technical transformations, and establishing clear priorities independently. Experience with tax systems is advantageous but not required.
