Description For Product Developer - Menswear Apparel

American Tall is a thriving e-commerce brand, dedicated to producing world-class quality clothing for tall men, and women, up to 7'1. Founded by a father and son duo in 2015, the business has grown significantly and is now a leading brand in the tall community. As the Product Developer for Menswear Apparel, you will be responsible for managing the development process by collaborating closely with Merchandisers, Technical Design, and Vendors. The role ensures that design integrity, product quality, and target price are maintained and that products are developed on schedule and delivered within the allocated timeline.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Collaborating on technical packages in PDM, focusing on BOM and Tech Pack updates for production
  • Determining best construction options during fittings with Technical Designers
  • Proposing changes and development/production perspectives to improve products
  • Communicating style development progress to vendors
  • Performing root cause analysis and recommending solutions to resolve issues
  • Developing and maintaining strong cross-functional relationships
  • Adhering to the company's product calendar
  • Participating in garment fittings and managing fabric/color standards library

The ideal candidate will have 2-5 years of experience in menswear apparel or fashion design, a Bachelor's degree or diploma in a related field, experience with PLM software, and proficiency in Adobe Illustrator. Strong communication, organization, and time management skills are essential.

Responsibilities For Product Developer - Menswear Apparel

  • Work in partnership with Technical Design from initial concept to maintaining product lifecycle
  • Collaborate on technical packages in PDM, focusing on BOM and Tech Pack updates for production
  • Determine best construction options during fittings in tandem with Technical Designers
  • Propose changes and development/production perspectives to improve products, for better costing and ensure successful commercialization
  • Communicate all style development progress to the vendor
  • Perform root cause analysis and communicate findings; recommending solutions to resolve issues
  • Anticipate and identify potential obstacles and issues from all aspects of development, costing & delivery
  • Develop and maintain strong cross-functional relationships with design, buyers, TD, R&D, and merchandising
  • Adhere to company's product calendar by solving production issues to meet calendar timelines
  • Build repeat sheets / colour standards w/ Merchandiser
  • Participate in garment fittings (with TD)
  • Build and maintain fabric/color standards library
  • Build and maintain trims, accessories library
  • Coordinate with vendors on all sample spec check and fitting results
  • Update and maintain Product Development WIP

Requirements For Product Developer - Menswear Apparel

  • 2-5 years' experience in menswear apparel or fashion design, product development or a similar type of role
  • A Bachelor's degree or diploma in apparel production, fashion, or a related field is highly preferred
  • Experience working with PLM software
  • Hands-on experience with garment measurements and POM
  • High proficiency with Adobe Illustrator
  • Proficiency in Microsoft office suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Excellent communication skills and organization skills
  • Strong time management skills to meet tight deadlines
  • Proven ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
