Research Engineer, Human Computer Interfaces

Anthropic is seeking an innovative Research Engineer to lead the introduction of new interaction modes for Claude, their cutting-edge AI assistant. This role combines expertise in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Design, and ML Research to shape the future of AI interaction and create more intuitive and user-friendly experiences.

Key responsibilities include:

• Designing and experimenting with novel interaction modes for Claude across various product surfaces
• Developing fine-tuning methods to integrate interaction modes into Claude's natural language processing
• Conducting user research on claude.ai customers
• Collaborating with product engineering and design teams

The ideal candidate should have:

• Exceptional front-end software engineering skills (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, modern frameworks)
• Proficiency in Python and experience with large language models
• Some experience with fine-tuning large language models
• A user-centric approach and interest in understanding user behavior
• Strong collaboration skills and excellent communication

Additional desired qualifications include:

• Background in HCI, UI/UX design, or related fields
• Experience in designing and conducting user research studies
• Ability to develop interactive prototypes
• Knowledge of latest trends in HCI, AI interaction design, and natural language interfaces
