Apple is seeking a Manufacturing Design Engineer (MDE) to join their Operations and Supply Chain team. This role represents a unique opportunity to be part of a company that revolutionizes entire industries through innovative products and services. As an MDE, you'll be responsible for driving the development of key mechanical manufacturing processes across Apple's worldwide supply base.

The position offers a comprehensive blend of technical expertise and leadership opportunities. You'll work directly with Apple's Industrial Design, Product Design, and Manufacturing Design partners, as well as worldwide suppliers. Your role will be highly visible and hands-on, requiring expertise in various manufacturing processes including CNC machining, surface finishing, glass processing, assembly, and painting.

Key responsibilities include defining best-in-class processes, developing documentation, working with Global Supply Managers, and providing leadership during production ramp. You'll use data-driven decision making, conduct analysis, and work on process optimization. The role requires a strong engineering background with at least 3 years of mechanical manufacturing experience.

The position offers an attractive compensation package, including a base salary range of $178,400 to $268,500, plus additional benefits such as stock options, comprehensive healthcare, and educational reimbursement. You'll be based in the San Francisco Bay Area and must be willing to travel domestically and internationally (35% travel required).

Responsibilities For Manufacturing Design Engineer (MDE) - Brittles

  • Define best-in-class processes to meet Apple design and operational requirements
  • Develop and document processes including parameters, consumables and secondary operation requirements
  • Work with Global Supply Managers to define supply chain requirements
  • Provide leadership at manufacturing sites during development and production ramp
  • Use data to drive process decisions, data analysis, DOEs, SPC
  • Identify, research, develop, and qualify equipment manufacturers and suppliers
  • Define part tolerance and specifications
  • Lead process development in areas like CNC machining, Surface Finishing, Glass Processing, Assembly, or Painting

Requirements For Manufacturing Design Engineer (MDE) - Brittles

  • BS, MS or PhD in mechanical, manufacturing or industrial engineering
  • 3+ years of full time mechanical manufacturing experience
  • 35% domestic and international travel required
  • Demonstrate hands-on mechanical ability
  • Excellent written and verbal interpersonal skills
  • Experience with highly cosmetic parts and manufacturing environment of consumer electronics
